Message When I lived in LA about 6 years ago I thought the same thing, it kind of far just for a mechanic. And with traffic to the Valley from where I lived (west LA/ Santa Monica) seemed like no fun. I ended up going to a shop a little closer and south of me. Since then I have gotten to know the great guys @ Specialty Z. If I had know then what I have now learned I would have made that trip up north. Heck, just last February I led a group of about 6 guys out from the Phoenix, AZ area on a 400+ mile trip to the New Specialty Z shop. In my opinion, its worth the distance, time, & money to have some of the best Z guys that have innovated many parts for our cars working on Z. They are busy because they are the best. It's some of the cheapest insurance you will ever spend money on to have it done right, the first time. Not that there are not any other capable people/ mechanics, but why when the best is so close?
As for a swap, some people say to sell your current Z and simply purchase a TT. There are a variety of reasons that can be found through the search function @ the top of the page. If you have any specific questions that you can't find a clear answer to, feel free to email me (address should be in my profile) and put "fellow TT.net member" in the heading.
Good luck with your project(s)
